**CALL TO ACTION** Legislative crisis!

Posted about 7 years ago by Joseph (Joey) Knoll

This is our first "Call to action" of the 2017 legislative session! In the coming weeks things are going to get hotter in Talahassee, and I am not talking about the weather!

We need our "NP Voice" to be strong this week! Dana Young (R) Tampa, district 20, the president of the Senate Health Policy Committe is REFUSING to add any of our NP bills to the agenda so that the senate can review and vote on them!. Right now she is blocking SB96 which passed through the house last week with overwhelming support!! This bill would allow ARNPs to serve as a medical director, baker act patients, and also calls for signature authority so that an NP signature would be accepted anywhere a physicians signature currently is!

PLEASE HELP!!! We need to show Mrs. Young that ARNPs are here to take care of Florida, and we will not be bullied out of our practice! We are asking that you email and/or tweet her at least 3 times PER DAY! Encouraging her to AGENDA SB96 so that the senate can review and vote on it just like the house did! The house recognizes our contribution to healthcare, and so does much of the senate... Dana apparently is not one of those people who sees it. HELP her see it!?

EMAIL- young.dana@flsenate.gov
Email her 3 or more times PER DAY! using the subject line “Agenda SB96!” and in the body of the email just remind her how important it is to support a robust healthcare team, remove barriers to care, and promote overall outcomes for citizens in Florida! Feel free to add your own spin on the body of the email.
Remind her that we will not stop emailing until we see SB96 added to the agenda! Send your email (if even just cut and paste the same one) at least 3 times per day!

TWITTER- @DanaYoungFL
Tweet her, retweet her, share and like all tweets that support ARNP practice. Tweet “Agenda SB96” directly to her @DanaYoungFl  Suggested hashtags:

Let’s be sure to flood her twitter wall with support for ARNPs.

AGENDA SB96

The demand for primary care services in the United States is increasing particularly with the aging and growth of the popula¬tion and passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are trained to and already do deliver many pri¬mary care services and may therefore be able to help increase access to primary care, particularly in under¬served areas.
NPs can perform many prima¬ry care services as well as physicians do and achieve equal or higher patient satisfaction rates among their patients.
The aging and growth of the U.S. population, along with the health care coverage expansions and other initiatives under the ACA, is expected to significantly increase demand for primary care services in the com¬ing years. by the year 2019, the demand for primary care in the United States will increase by between 15 million and 25 million visits per year, requiring between 4,000 and 7,000 more physicians to meet this new demand.4 Moreover, any increased demand for primary care will be added to an already existing shortage of primary care practitioner. Moreover, any increased demand for primary care will be added to an already existing shortage of primary care practitioners. The federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) estimates that more than 35.2 million people. living within the 5,870 Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) nationwide do not currently receive adequate primary care services.

Increasing the role of NPs in providing primary care services has the potential to help alleviate the expected primary care workforce shortage. PLEASE LET S REMOVE BARRIERS TO CARE AND PROMOTE OUTCOMES FOR CITIZENS IN FLORIDA.
