Transgender Healthcare for Advanced Practice Nurses

Multiple sponsors have come together to create a 1 day conference for Advanced Practice Nurses (and other healthcare providers) to create awareness and comfort in the treatment of transgender patients. This FREE conference includes various topics pertaining to incorporating the healthcare needs of individuals who identify as a gender other than that of which they were assigned at birth. The event is hosted by University of South Florida college of nursing in Tampa (USF). The goal is to help Advance Practice Nurses increase their cultural competency and strengthen their clinical knowledge of the health related concerns these patients face. There will also be a panel discussion with real life experiences and view points of transgender patients and advocates.

Topics include primary care considerations, gender affirming practices, cultural competencies, known healthcare disparities, medical and surgical treatments and hormone replacement therapy as well as networking and referral sources.

Many of you have heard Joey speak about legislative issues; this conference will be just as full of energy and passion about the quality care he delivers to transgender patients on a daily basis as a typical discussion with him about the latest bills in Talahassee! Joey will be presenting in the afternoon segment about medical transition and Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT).
