Donate $10 for 2010

Dear ARNP Colleague,

Hopefully, this is not the first you have heard of our 10 for 2010 fundraising drive.  Our goal is to raise sufficient funds to hire a professional public relations firm to help us with advanced practice legislative issues.

To date, the ARNP issue in the forefront has been our effort to obtain legal authority to prescribe controlled substances.  I know this is not news to you and I know you are aware we are one of only two states where this authority is being denied.

We have tried numerous strategies over the years but have been unable to overcome the resistance of organized medicine and the recalcitrance of the legislature.

The one strategy we have not capitalized on has been a concentrated, consistent media campaign.  We feel, if we are persistent and consistent, we should be able to obtain some visible press, and thus exert pressure on the policy makers.

With the recent elections, there has been a tremendous turnover in the legislative delegations. There are now individuals whom we have not had the opportunity to educate or discuss our issues with.  In addition, these new policy makers will be instrumental in engineering major Medicaid reform in the State.  We MUST be a part of these discussions and visible on many levels (not just during the hearings or session). If we can raise enough money to hire professional help, and with your financial help, we have a chance to make inroads into this process.

Before we begin,  WE NEED MONEY.  If each of you receiving this email would send us a minimum of $10.00 (10 for 2010), we would be well on our way to starting this initiative.  We have more to lose now than ever; The issues may well become greater than the prescribing of controlled substances.

This is a coordinated effort among the Nurse Practitioner Coalition, which is made up of FNA, FNPN, FANA, and ACNM.  We are all reaching out to our members. PLEASE, WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION NOW.
