Hello CFANPC members and followers!

As many of you are aware, we have had numerous NP priority bills filed by both the Florida House and Senate this legislative season!

Senate Bill #614 title "Drug Prescription by Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants" and Senate Bill #476 title "Mental Health", which allow for prescription of controlled substances and baker act initiation and release by Psychiatric ARNPs have been placed on the agenda for a final committee vote on Monday (agenda attached). If they pass the committee they will go to the floor for a full vote of the Senate. Nursing leadership is hopeful that these bills will pass the senate in 2015! If they pass the senate, the house appears favorable to also pass them!

Twenty-one states in the union have implemented "full practice authority" for Nurse Practitioners. House Bill 547, introduced by Representative Pigman, calls for "full practice authority" by independent advanced practice nurse practitioners in our state. The house committees thus far have been favorable to the bill. Nursing and Nurse practitioner professional organizations all over the state are rallying to support expanding the role of advanced practice nurses in our state – thereby allowing them to practice to the full extent of their education and training.

Check out the professional video created by a DNP student as part of her policy project. Please share liberally within your "circle of influence" to assist all to understand the problem of access to primary care physicians in Florida and the availability of Nursing to assist fill the gap with safe, affordable health care services.
