House Ends Session Early!
Posted over 10 years ago by Angie Ritten
Hello colleagues!
Yesterday, the Florida House ended their session "Sine Die". http://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/politics/2015/04/28/sine-die-surpise-house-adjournment-blows-session/26539791/
This means that all bills in the House, and those that had not yet been forwarded to the House from the Senate are dead. This includes SB614, the DEA bill. The Baker Act bill passed both the House and Senate before this happened and is awaiting the Governor's signature. The Baker Act bill has many foreseen problems, but most feel that at least we got some forward motion...
A special session is expected to occur with the House and the Senate to implement a budget (required by the Florida constitution), which is likely to include the Medicaid issue. Your legislators need to understand that there is already a primary care physician shortage in our state and that budget negotiations that include expansion of Medicaid must include ARNPs practicing to the full extent of their education and training without cumbersome and costly supervision.
Don't slow down in contacting your legislators to continue the message of "extreme shortage of primary care providers" and an "abundance of primary care nurse practitioners" who can assist greatly if given "full practice authority"!
It's not over...until it is over!
In your service,
Angie Ritten
CFANPC 2015 President

You are absolutely right Angie. My prayer is that every ARNP in this state will become involved in legislative issues affecting ARNP practice and health care issues affecting our FL residents. We need to borrow the West Point Military Academy motto "Courage, Strength and Drive" and March onward. These words are very invigorating. Again THANKS to our lobbyist, Dr Gary Pigman and Denise Grimsley, and all ARNP's who join our efforts.
Sharon
